When I first heard the term “foeteli” shortly after arriving in Switzerland, I became very angry.
Li, a diminutive in Swiss German vocabulary, seemed to diminish the value of an art form that was, and still is, close to my heart. I asked myself, “Why don't you call paintings ‘Gemäldeli’ or sculptures ‘Plastikli’?”
Of course, over time I stopped reacting so strongly (although it's still not my favorite phrase) and was then inspired to photograph people taking “foeteli.”

And so you could say that the once-dreaded expression, foeteli, is actually the inspiration for this photo series.
