"Living with the Animals"
I grew up in Brooklyn. In my neighborhood there were no animals, no more
than one or two dogs, or cats. Of course later on I met people who had
house pets, but I never did, except for a few years with a cat, and
really wasn’t inclined to ever have another one myself.
My life in Zug has been a whole other story. For these past many years
here I have lived amongst cows, pigs, chickens, sheep, goats not to
mention dogs and cats. I’ve seen foxes on the streets, deer in the
woods, horses go clomping by. I have come to appreciate and enjoy my
contact with these creatures. Have watched my children, and
grandchildren gaze in astonishment and wonder at their meetings with
them all. These interactions have inspired me to examine
photographically the way people co-exist with animals. How do we treat
them, and how do they respond to us? Why do we keep them so near? And
aside from the obvious, is that beneficial for us and or for them?
And so the series “ Living with the Animals”.
